No Other God Before Him
There should be no other god before you… is not just a song but a command.
A command is given by someone who has the authority to back up what he or she has said. There can be no other gods before Our God. He has commanded it to be this way. He is the one True Living God. The only one without a form. Throughout all of the bible and history, we have seen so many other gods present themselves, but no one who has no form. This is why He can’t be put in a box. He can’t be contained to a stature because He is too vast, too big to be out there. Other gods have poles, man-made figures. However, these can not be the true God because of his first mention. When he introduced himself, he said hi I’m God, and I am a creator. He did not then say this is what I look like and give you an image, but he began to show who He was by creating. He created and then waited to ensure that what he created functioned properly. In Ex. when God introduced Himself to the children of Israel, He did it with smoke and fire at a mountain and used only His voice. He didn’t bring an image of Himself, though the people created one. Isn’t it interesting that we look for something that we can taste, touch, feel, and smell with our physical senses to create what God looks like, but he never gave us a depiction? The children of Israel (our cousins) were not able to let go of what they saw in Egypt. In Dt 4:12-20, it talks about how we should not take on any other gods. The Lord was so good in everything he mentioned because, as I can see, he mentions everything that is even now in the 21st century is concerened a god. So let’s go down the list…Don’t have an idol for yourselves in the shape of any figure:
no male or female form
no form of any beast on the warth
no winged creature that flies in the sky
no creature that crawls on the ground
no fish in the waters
no sun
no moon
no stars
neither the array of heaven (the last 4 the bible says that they were made for all people everywhere under heaven)
So, God knew that we would and that there were people already worshipping them. He knew that this is where they came from but I believe He hhad hope that all the things that He had done would be enough to remember what He did not to turn away from him.
But thank God for Jesus.
Because even though I forget sometimes Holy Spirit reminds me of who God is and what He has done for me. There can be no other God before you.
Let us all repent for boxing God into a container that we can control. Let us repent for following gods that we can see. Just because I cant see Him does not make Him not real. I just have to remember becasue there is power in a memory.
