Maybe Identity Is Found in Movement🤔
I used to love the Bourne Identity movies. The mystery. The fighting. The suspense. It was intriguing to say the least.
But now that I’m older, I realize those movies were never just about action.
They were about identity.
Even the name says it: Bourne Identity.
A man who forgot who he was… and had to discover himself while moving.
That part hits different now.
Because if I’m honest, I’ve spent a lot of my life feeling like I needed the entire blueprint before I moved. I needed the ups, the downs, the ins, the outs, the strategy, the role, the skill set, the backup plan, and the guarantee that it would all work out before I took the first real step.
What skills will I need?
Do I even have them?
Will I need school?
Will people support me?
Will I fail?
What will they say?
What if I don’t sound smart enough?
What if I’m wrong?
The list can go on forever.
But Jason Bourne didn’t have the whole story.
All he knew was that something inside of him was telling him to move.
And as he moved, things started revealing themselves.
He found shelter.
He found food.
He found clothes.
He discovered skills he didn’t even know he had.
And maybe one of the wildest parts… people around him knew who he was before he remembered who he was himself.
That’ll preach all by itself.
Because all throughout the Bible, we see people moving before they had the full picture.
The Holy Bible is full of people walking without complete understanding.
Abraham moved.
Moses moved.
Peter moved.
The disciples moved.
They didn’t have the full blueprint. They had enough light for the next step.
And honestly… so do we.
Or maybe I should say so do I.
So what’s really the difference between them and me?
I think it’s one word.
Fear.
Fear keeps me stuck.
Fear keeps me inconsistent.
Fear keeps me quiet.
Fear keeps me overthinking instead of moving.
Fear of the unknown.
Fear of what people will say.
Fear of sounding foolish.
Fear of failure.
Fear of success.
Fear of being seen.
Yeah… I said it.
But what if none of that actually mattered?
What if fear has simply been the wall standing between me and the life God has been trying to walk me into this entire time?
Italy.
New conversations.
New rooms.
New levels.
New business.
New opportunities.
New impact.
Maybe even the version of me I haven’t met yet.
Because maybe identity isn’t fully discovered sitting still.
Maybe identity is uncovered through movement.
Maybe some parts of us can only be introduced after we take the step.
So now I have to ask you the same question I’ve been asking myself:
What’s keeping you from finding out who you really are?
What is your Bourne Identity?
